Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Left Blank (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits classic creme de cassis characteristics along with hints of minerals, new saddle leather, graphite, and smoke. Rich, full-bodied, and superbly concentrated with a seamless integration of wood, acidity, alcohol, and tannin.
- Vinous: Deep, dark red. Very ripe, rather extreme aromas of black raspberry liqueur, kirsch, chocolate and mocha verge on port-like but displayed a lively violet topnote with air. Suave, fine-grained and sweet in the mouth, with kirsch, spice and truffle flavors delivering excellent intensity as well as a touch of alcoholic warmth. Harmonious acidity gives a juicy quality to the savory finish, which features firm, building, tongue-dusting tannins.
Producer Information
Behrens Family Winery is a Napa Valley wine producer located within the Spring Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area). The estate produces a small range of wines per year at its Spring Mountain winery from varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The Behrens wine portfolio changes slighlty from year to year, depending on the growing season and external contracts. Recent releases include The Cemetery, a varietal Cabernet Sauvignon and the Blender Boy which is a Cabernet Franc-dominant blend with portions of Petit Sirah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes for each limited production wine are handpicked in the vineyard to preserve phenolic compounds and prevent excess oxidation. After fermentation, the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. The winery was founded in 1993 as Behrens & Hitchcock Winery, and changed its name in 2005 when the Behrens family took sole control.
