Detailed Description
Good full red. Raspberry, minerals and complex soil tones on the nose. Sweet, suave and creamy but at the same time sappy, juicy and deep, with resounding, lightly saline flavors of raspberry and pungent minerality. Amazingly flashy wine today, with its smooth tannins buried in sweet fruit.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2007 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots has a more refined and complex bouquet than the 2006: red plum, wild strawberries, heightened mineralité and wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with raspberry coulis and fresh strawberry on the entry, filigree tannin and wonderfully judged acidity.
- Burghound: This is really quite pretty with its expressive nose that is composed of darker Pinot fruit that exude background notes of a fine spiciness and violets as well as a subtle hint of volatile acidity (VA). There is a lovely sense of energy to the delicious medium weight flavors that that possess ample mid-palate sap that coats and stains the palate before finishing with a mineral-driven finish. This is a classic Reignots that is focused like a laser and while the flavors are not especially big, they carry a disproportionate impact. The VA is just enough to detract from the overall purity but not so much as to affect the quality of the finish. Note that remarkably enough this is not so structured as to be undrinkable now even in this very large format bottling.
Producer Information
Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, founded in 2000, is a relatively new wine producer in Burgundy, although the Liger-Belair family have owned vineyards in Vosne-Romanée since 1815. The domaine makes a range of grand and premier cru wines from vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée, with the tiny monopole of La Romanée providing Comte Liger-Belair’s flagship wine.Louis Liger-Belair, a former general in Napoleon’s army, acquired a vineyard holdings during the state sell-off of estates confiscated under the French Revolution – including the impressive Château de Vosne-Romanée. The Liger-Belairs held a good portion of land in the southern Côte de Nuits in the 19th Century, owning La Romanée and La Tâche as well as large portions of Clos de Vougeot and Chambertin, and a handful of premier cru vineyards.Much of the land was sold off in 1933 under Burgundy’s complicated Napoleonic inheritance laws. What was left was farmed out to local vignerons and the wares sold to negociants.
