Hints of animal and wild herbs highlight the black currant and blackberry flavors in this powerful red. Stern tannins and vibrant acidity suggest waiting a few years. Balanced and long.

Producer Information
Domaine Michèle & Patrice Rion is a wine producer and négociant based in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. It specializes in the production of red wines made from Pinot Noir, but also makes a pair of white wines. One of these is a negociant Bourgogne Chardonnay, while the other estate=grown wine is more unusual. The Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Terres Blanches is Chardonnay-predominant but around ten percent of the 1.3-hectare (3.2-acre) parcel is planted to Pinot Blanc. Today, the estate farms a total of 6 hectares (15 acres) of vineyards located primarily in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny. Domaine Michèle & Patrice Rion owns eight monopoles from which it produces the majority of its premier cru wines, the most significant being the Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos Saint-Marc monopole. The estate also purchases grapes from neighboring Burgundian winegrowers. Domaine Michèle & Patrice Rion cultivates these vines using only organic agricultural practices. It was one of the first wine producers in Burgundy to grow their vines much higher than average to optimize ripening. During harvest, grapes are picked by hand and sorted in two rounds – the first to remove unripe fruit and the second to ensure no imperfect berries make it to the winemaking stages. The Pinot Noir grapes are completely destemmed and fermented for approximately 12 days. After fermentation, the wines are aged on their lees for between 15-18 months in either Allier or Tronçais oak barrels. The percentage of new oak varies, depending on the classification and vintage.
