Detailed Description
Bright dark ruby. Brooding scents of blackcurrant, black cherry, licorice and minerals. Wonderfully suave, thick and sweet on entry, showing a light truffle-and-herb complexity to its deep, full flavors of plum, brown spices and salty minerals. Beautifully filled in but with impeccable balance and a lovely light touch. Finishes with tongue-dusting tannins that spread out to saturate the entire palate and outstanding slowly building length.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Composed of 82.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and the rest tiny dollops of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the 2008 Paradise Hills Vineyard Proprietary Red has added considerable richness, weight, texture, nuance and complexity over the last year. Aromas of chocolate, espresso, blackberries, black currants and charcoal/burning embers leads to a full-bodied, expressive, rich wine that is nearly as compelling as the 2007.
- Vinous: Bright dark ruby. Is the touch of violet from the 0.5% Cabernet Franc? Sexy, complex wine, and a great ’08.
Producer Information
Blankiet Estate is a wine producer established in 1996 in the Napa Valley, California. The estate vineyard, Paradise Hills, overlooks Yountville at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, and is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The vineyard is perched on a steep slope above Dominus Estate’s famous Napanook vineyard. The Paradise Hills is split into four parcels, each section distinguishable by its soils and climate. The vineyards face east, and have significant diurnal temperature variation that helps the grapes reach full phenolic ripeness while retaining acidity. Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in the parts of the vineyard that have porous volcanic soils, whereas Merlot is planted in soils of deep alluvial clay.Blankiet Estate employs viticulturist David Abreu and winemaker Helen Turley, who worked together to develop the vineyard, sourcing rootstocks, and grafting them with clones from first growth estates in Bordeaux.
