Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: An attractive, supple, dark plum/garnet/purple-tinged Pomerol, the 2008 exhibits notes of licorice, olives, mocha and jammy black and red fruits. It is an elegant, medium-bodied, silky red.
- James Suckling: Polished and expressive, this full-bodied red delivers plum, coffee, mineral and licorice flavors that are focused and rich, with enough ripe, well-integrated tannins to carry them into maturity. A bit austere, but sophisticated and pure.
Producer Information
Château Petit Village is an estate located in Pomerol, on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The grand vin is a classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and was joined by the estate’s second label, Le Jardin de Petit Village in 1996. The 10 hectare (26 acre) vineyard sits atop the Pomerol plateau where the clay and gravel soils are rich in iron. Merlot is the most prevalent grape variety grown here, with 75-percent of the vineyard dedicated to its cultivation. Smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc (17-percent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (8-percent) make up the remainder of the vineyard making Petit Village one of the largest Cabernet Sauvignon plantings in Pomerol. In the vineyard, harvest is carried out by hand with the grapes then vinified plot-by-plot in thermoregulated concrete vats. Post-primary fermentation, malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel. The wines are then aged for around 15 months in oak barrels, around 60-70 percent of which is new. As of April 2020, the estate is a part of the Moulin family-owned Beauregard portfolio.
