Producer Information
Our winery was built in the style of the late 1960s in the immediate vicinity of the Episcopal Seminary (founded in 1173). The vaulted barrel cellar of this institution has been expanded. Our barrel cellar now covers a total of 30,000 m² area divided into three different levels. In 1978 there were still over 970 barrels in the tank stored in old cellars that were used for winemaking/vinification, as stainless steel tanks were not traditionally used. The DOM collection is the business card of the Bischöfliche Weingut Trier and the foundation of the entire range. These wines embody our region and reflect their origins from the vineyards of the Moselle, Saar and Ruwer: fresh fruit, dancing minerals and lasting fullness. They offer wine enjoyment for every occasion and are striking everyday companions! In addition to the Riesling in various flavors, the DOM collection is multi-faceted with other grape variety wines such as the DOM Pinot Blanc dry, the DOM Elbling dry, the DOM red wine dry, the DOM Rosé dry as well as a DOM Riesling Sekt brut and DOM Rosé Sekt brut. In 2012, the appearance of the DOM collection was revised and our bottles from the DOM shine -Line in a new dress. The label was created with the lettering DOM in focus, which catches the eye and appears in the respective colors depending on the taste – our step into modernity. With the acquisition of the former foundation winery Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in 2003, our property also expanded by 30 hectares in slate vineyards along the Moselle and Saar, where Riesling grapes ripen to internationally recognized top quality. In addition to the slate Riesling, our portfolio also includes the Fritz Willi – a wine with playful fruit aromas, a fine acid structure and spicy, herbal minerality. In 2016, the “Fritz Willi” received its new label. We cultivate 130 hectares spread over 145 plots which include 35 individual vineyards of famous names. Our focus is on each individual plot in order to best bring out the character of each wine in the vineyard and in the cellar. Always with nature in mind. We welcome guests and wine connoisseurs from all over the world in Germany’s oldest city and, through our international sales, bring a piece of the vineyard, a piece of Trier, a piece of the Moselle to the world. We see our mission today as preserving the (wine) cultural heritage, transforming it into modernity and preserving it for future generations.
