Producer Information
Domaine François Gaunoux is a wine producer based in the town of Meursault, in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune subregion. The domaine produces wines from both the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties and its holdings cover a number of vineyards – many highly-regarded – across Meursault and the neighboring appellations of Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. The Gaunoux family has roots in the Côte d’Or going back to the 16th Century although the eponymous François Gaunoux is the father of current manager Claudine Gaunoux, who took over the running of the estate in 2000. The domaine boasts around 10 hectares (25 acres) of holdings across Meursault, Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. Top red wine sites (and labels) include the premier crus: Beaune Le Clos des Mouches; Volnay Clos des Chênes; and the Les Rugiens, Grands Épenots and Épenots – all in Pommard. For white wines, the domaine’s plots principally span Meursault and include the flagship, 3.5-hectare (8.6-acre) Le Clos des Meix Chavaux and Clos de Tavaux monopoles (both village-level sites), as well as the premier cru Meursault Les Gouttes d’Or. The grapes are all hand-harvested and 100-percent destemmed prior to fermentation. The wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged for 16 to 18 months in oak barriques.
