Producer Information
Domaine Yves et Mathilde Gangloff is a well-regarded wine producer based in the northern Rhône region of Condrieu (and best-known for its sumptuous, Viognier-based wines from that appellation). Founder Yves Gangloff established the domaine with his wife, Mathilde, in 1987 after years of selling fruit to negociants from their small one-hectare (2.5-acre) plot. As well as its flagship Condrieu whites, the domaine produces a limited selection of labels from prestigious sites across the wider northern Rhone region. These include wines from the Syrah heartland of the Côte Rôtie, as well as Saint-Joseph. From the Côte Rôtie, Domaine Yves et Mathilde Gangloff produces Syrah from 2.4 hectares (six acres) of vineyard land at the lieux-dits Combard, Mollard and Rozier. These cooler sites, located in the Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, are situated primarily on steep hillsides and are composed of gneiss, granite and mica schist soils. From the lieux-dits Le Mollard in the Côte Blonde and Rozier in the Côte Brune, the estate makes Sereine Noire with fruit produced solely from 50-year-old Syrah vines. Since the 1997 vintage, Domaine Yves et Mathilde Gangloff has produced La Barbarine from its Côte Rôtie vineyards. The cuvée, a blend of Syrah with a small portion of Viognier, is produced with fruit primarily from young vines. In Condrieu, the domaine produces its flagship Viognier wines, and from the estate’s vineyards in Saint-Joseph comes a Saint-Joseph blanc (white) blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, and a (Saint-Joseph rouge) Syrah.
