Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Burley tobacco, toasted pecan, and plum and cherry concentrate in for a Chevillon 2007 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Cailles that shares with its sibling from Bousselots a flattering sweetness of mouth-coating ripe fruit, but at the same time preserves the toasty, smoky depth suggested on the nose and reveals saline, stony nuances that carry into its long finish. This imposingly seamless Pinot ought to satisfy for at least the next dozen years.
- Burghound: The most complex nose of any wine to this point with notes of game, smoke, damp earth, red and blue berry fruit and touches of underbrush and a trace of blackberry liqueur that complements well the wonderfully layered, concentrated and palate staining flavors blessed with excellent richness and plenty of extract on the lingering and mouth coating finish. As always, this is terrific though for the first time in a long time, it is not obviously superior to the Pruliers though it’s finer.
Producer Information
Domaine Robert Chevillon is a producer of high-end Pinot Noir wines in the Burgundy commune of Nuit-Saint-Georges. The domaine’s history dates back to the turn of the 20th Century, when Symphorien Chevillon tended vineyards in his own name. The property was passed down through the Chevillon family and grew to its present size of roughly 13 hectares (32 acres). Several plots owned by Robert Chevillon were in vineyards that were upgraded to premier cru, adding to the success of the domaine’s wines. Robert Chevillon was the first to bottle wines at the domaine instead of selling to négociants. He retired in 2003, passing the establishment onto his sons. Chevillon has parcels in eight premier cru sites in Nuit-Saint-Georges. The domaine is known for having older vines in three of its premier cru vineyards, Les Cailles, Les Vaucrains and Les Saint-Georges, some more than 75 years old. The domaine also makes Chardonnay, Aligoté and a Passe-tout-grains, though these carry broader designations and don’t command the same prices as the premier crus.
