Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2007 Syrah Cinematique from the outstanding Larner Vineyard was cropped at less than two tons of fruit per acre, and was aged in one-third new French oak. It exhibits Burgundian-like sensitivities in its raspberry, cherry, and blueberry scents interwoven with notions of spring flowers and earth. Inky/purple-tinged, full-bodied, pure, and dense, but light on its feet, with unmistakable minerality, it should drink beautifully for 10-12 years. Paul Lato continues to go from strength to strength with both his Pinot Noir and Syrah programs. He had fabulous raw materials to work with in 2007, and he hit home runs with these two offerings.
- James Suckling: Inky purple. Exotic aromas of dark berry and cherry compote, olive, smoky herbs and incense, plus a sexy cola note that gains strength with air. Juicy, palate-staining blackberry and boysenberry flavors are given spine by a zesty mineral quality and framed by fine-grained tannins. Extremely suave syrah with strong finishing spiciness and a lingering note of cherry-cola.
Producer Information
Passion, quality, and authenticity. These are the guiding principles of our small, artisanal winery dedicated to producing Burgundy and Rhone varietals. Paul Lato is a former sommelier who studied wine extensively and traveled the world before starting his winemaking operation on the Central Coast in 2002. Though their style is inspired by the balance and harmony, they also seek to capture the intensity of flavor that is a hallmark of sun-kissed California vineyards. Through small-lot boutique production, minimal intervention in the winery, and purity of intention, the team works to achieve elegance in the bottle that showcases the unique qualities of these amazing sites. The ultimate goal is to create wines that are seamless and textural with the structure and balance to complement fine cuisine.
