Reviews:
- Vinous: Moncuit’s Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Millesimé shows a different facet of its personality in this version, with lower dosage vis-à-vis the Brut version. Here the flavors are brighter and more sculpted throughout. Hints of toastiness, almond and tangerine oil add an exotic flair that makes the Extra Brut absolutely beguiling. Lower dosage seems to exalt the minerality and bright acids of the year, while pushing the fruit a bit into the background. Both Brut and Extra Brut bottlings are terrific; choosing among them comes down to personal preference. Dosage is grams per liter. Disgorged November 2020.
Producer Information
ack in 1889, Alex Moncuit buys the first parcels of vines and writes the prologue of the family’s wine history. Alex’s son Pierre Moncuit is the first to commercialize the house’s production and, together with his wife, he puts the house on the wine world map. Pierre runs the house until 1977, when his daughter Nicole takes over the management with her brother Yves, who adds successful marketing elixir to the house. Nicole and Valerie Moncuit are the two generations who today run the family business with a firm hand of quality from vine to bottle. In this millennium, the family has built a new, modern winery to honour the wings of history. The place and the raw materials are the focus: everything is done by hand, which means that every bottle gets full attention. The new winery allows the family to control the quality and development of each parcel through to blending. This has also meant that the wines get even better publicity than before. Now with a 2008 vintage with 94 great Vinous points.
